1001 Albums - 175 - 237, Finally caught up the stupid blog!

Exactly as the title states, you dummies! The seventies start here, and while a lot of this is not bad, it's really unexceptional. Just goes to show that lists like this are probably as political as they are genuine. Oh well, I got nothing better to do so I might as will keep kicking this turd down the human highway.

Cosmo's Factory
0175 Creedence Clearwater Revival – Cosmo’s Factory - Sounds like the other CCR on the list, which is good.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs
0176 Derek & the Dominos – Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs - Might be the most listenable that Clapton ever got for me, but I still don't think it's all that great.

Bitches Brew
0177 Miles Davis – Bitches Brew - Never ending improv music that fans have a boner for since it's rock/jazz fusion. The end result is boring shit.

12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus
0178 Spirit – Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus - Did nothing for me, don't remember it.

Black Sabbath
0179 Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath (1st Album) - I'm not a huge Sabbath fan, but this one grows on me with each listen.

Morrison Hotel [40th Anniversary Mixes]
0180 The Doors – Morrison Hotel - No long jams, just some solid songs. "Land Ho" is irresistible.

Close To You
0181 The Carpenters – Close to You - I think this is their debut, and it's a good one. Her voice is perfect, the songs are squeaky clean, it's hard not to like.

Stephen Stills
0182 Stephen Stills – Stephen Stills (1st Album) - This is somewhere between CSN and Buffalo Springfield. Which doesn't mean it's actually good or worth listening to.

Plastic Ono Band [+Digital Booklet]
0183 John Lennon – Plastic Ono Band - Lennon's first solo album, and it's still amazing to listen to. He would never get so personal again. Highly Recommended

Deja Vu
0184 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Déjà vu - As good as CSN get, but that's just because I love Neil Young.

Paranoid
0185 Black Sabbath – Paranoid - This one shrinks on me with each listen, mainly because I've listened to it so often I'm a little too familiar with it.

After The Gold Rush
0186 Neil Young – After the Gold Rush - Not as lauded as his other albums of the period, it's still incredibly strong with some truly fantastic songs.

Led Zeppelin III
0187 Led Zeppelin – III - The first Zep I owned, and I prefer it hugely over LZII.

Deep Purple In Rock
0188 Deep Purple – In Rock - What LZ would be with less talent.

Moondance
0189 Van Morrison – Moondance - The first Van I ever heard, I'm still terribly fond of it.

American Beauty (Expanded US Release)
0190 Grateful Dead – American Beauty - People who hate the Dead should listen to this album since it really is quite beautiful.

Bryter Layter
0191 Nick Drake – Bryter Layter - Drakes folk is always welcome on projects featuring lists.

Ananda Shankar
0192 Ananda Shankar – Ananda Shankar (1970) - As great of a sitar rock cover album can be.

Live At Leeds (2010 Super Deluxe Edition)
0193 The Who – Live at Leeds - The first Who live album shows why they are considered one of the all time great bands. Insane playing that doesn't seem to make sense, but does. Get the complete version with "Tommy".

Third
0194 Soft Machine – Third - More boring ass pretentious prog rock. Paaaaaaass (as in "Pass it by", not "Pass the reefer".

Gasoline Alley
0195 Rod Stewart – Gasoline Alley - I've always though of Rod as a no talent idiot, this does little to change my mind.

All Things Must Pass
0196 George Harrison – All Things Must Pass - Harrison dumps out a ton of songs written during his Beatles days, and 90% are better then anything Paul McCartney has or will do.

Bridge Over Troubled Water
0197 Simon & Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water - S&G never sounded better. this was their last album. Coincidence?

Tea For The Tillerman
0198 Cat Stevens – Tea for the Tillerman - Pleasing twee folk rock. Really pleasing, like a warm smile on a pretty girl.

John Barleycorn Must Die
0199 Traffic – John Barleycorn Must Die - No, Steve Windwood must die, or at least be crippled.

Funhouse [Deluxe Edition]
0200 The Stooges – Fun House - Kicks all sorts of ass, even the complete sessions available elsewhere kick ass.

Sweet Baby James
0201 James Taylor - Sweet Baby James - I'm convinced that James Taylor was born without his nuts.

Mccartney
0202 Paul McCartney – McCartney (1970) - Paul broke up the Beatles for this piece of shit thing that sounds like unfinished demos.

Abraxas
0203 Santana – Abraxas - Santana has always sounded the same, and I've never cared for it.

The Madcap Laughs
0204 Syd Barrett – Madcap Laughs - The bonkers ex-Pink Floyd leader writes some incredibly charming songs on this, it's worth a check out.

Aqualung
0205 Jethro Tull – Aqualung - A more then decent album here, "Aqualung" is really a great song.

If I Could Only Remember My Name
0206 David Crosby – If Only I Could Remember My Name - Completely forgettable and incredibly weak.

There's a Riot Goin on
0207 Sly & the Family Stone – There’s a Riot Goin’ On - Social commentary funk? Yes please! Great stuff.

What's Going On
0208 Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On - Social commentary soul? Yes please! Great Stuff.

The Yes Album
0209 Yes – Yes Album - Shitty prog rock? No thanks, and fuck you Yes!

Trafalgar
0210 Bee Gees – Trafalgar - Pre-Disco Bee Gees still suck.

Who's Next
0211 The Who – Who’s Next - One of the best Who albums still sounds timeless to me. Awesome.

Tapestry
0212 Carole King – Tapestry - King comes out on her own after writing dozens of hits. And it is good.

Shaft
0213 Isaac Hayes – Shaft: Music from the Soundtrack - Aside from the funny title track, this is boring stuff.

The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East
0214 Allman Brothers – At Fillmore East - They over stay their welcome a little bit, despite rocking.

Sticky Fingers
0215 The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers - Another dead awesome Stones album.

Imagine
0216 John Lennon – Imagine - Not as good as his first album, it still has some lovely songs.

Sunflower / Surf's Up
0217 The Beach Boys – Surf’s Up - The only good songs date from the "Smile" era, and they sound terrible compared to the demos.

Fragile [Expanded]
0218 Yes – Fragile - More pretentious shit thrown in your ears with this one.

L.A. Woman
0219 The Doors – LA Woman - The Doors last gasp, and it's a great one.

Tago Mago
0220 Can – Tago Mago - All I remember of this one is that it was in another language and boring.

Madman Across the Water
0221 Elton John – Madman Across the Water - I'm not a huge Elton fan, but this is really, really good.

Coat of Many Colors
0222 Dolly Parton – Coat of Many Colors - An incredibly dark toned album from Dolly makes this one a keeper.

American Pie
0223 Don McLean – American Pie - Boring shit, outside of the brilliant title song. Not sure a one hit wonder should be on a list like this.

Tarkus
0224 Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Tarkus - Makes Yes sound appealing...

Led Zeppelin IV
0225 Led Zeppelin – IV [aka Untitled / aka Four Symbols] - About as good as Zep can get, but I still like the first one better.

Histoire De Melody Nelson
0226 Serge Gainsbourg – Histoire de Melody Nelson - This was in French so I'm probably missing something since this was pretty bland stuff.

Every Picture Tells a Story
0227 Rod Stewart – Every Picture Tells a Story - Another Hot Rod turd fest.

Pictures At An Exhibition
0228 Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Pictures at an Exhibition - A live album, but still a snooze-fest for me.

Songs Of Love And Hate
0229 Leonard Cohen – Songs of Love & Hate - Another pretty solid Cohen album. He's stretches the music a bit here and it mostly works.

Blue
0230 Joni Mitchell – Blue - Really solid songs, and sung amazingly well.

Maggot Brain
0231 Funkadelic – Maggot Brain - Fuzzed out funk that's borderline metal at times. No other Funkadelic will quite capture it.

Pearl
0232 Janis Joplin – Pearl - This is her final album I think, and it's dead solid.

Live With Ginger Baker
0233 Fela Kuti - With Ginger Baker: Live! - Ginger Baker is a big drumming draw, but this is a African music were every track sounds the same. None of it is really bad, it's just not as exceptional as you would be lead to believe.

A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse
0234 The Faces – A Nod is as Good as a Wink… To a Blind Horse - It's better then Rod Stewarts solo work, so that's a plus I guess.

Teenage Head
0235 Flamin’ Groovies – Teenage Head - This was a pretty irresistible all out garage rock record. Will certainly get a replay from me.

White Light
0236 Gene Clark – White Light - The forme Byrd steps out with a damned fine alt country album. A really nice find in this project.

John Prine
0237 John Prine – John Prine (1st Album) - He's a cheeky song writer, and also a poignant one. Fun country folk on here that should make you smile.

That's it until next time.
